A jeweller who lost more than £300,000 in the riots has said not enough has been done to compensate his business.
Yianni Constantinou, 44, owner of YC London, had his store trashed and much of his stock taken during the riots. A year on he is still waiting for compensation from the police.
He said: "We put a claim in but it went to the eleventh hour and we are told it isn’t Scotland yard but the Metropolitan Police who are dealing with it.
"They passed the buck on and we are still in a very horrible place to be quite frank.
"I am looking at a stack of bills here and it isn’t very good. We had a £10,000 loan from the council but we have to pay that back and that is about it.
"It isn’t good enough if you ask me. There is no fast fix, there is no one to call. We are waiting for the council or government to recognise that we are still in trouble and still need help.
"For the first six months there was a lot phone calls, banter and "we are here to help", basically blowing wind up my skirt.
"Slowly that has dried up and we are just waiting to hear what is what."
