A victim of the riots has slammed the level of compensation she has received and says she still has nightmares about her ordeal one year on.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said the compensation she has received is only a fraction of what was originally quoted to her by her insurance company.

The victim’s flat, on Reeves Corner was set on fire by rioters and all of her possessions were destroyed. The 51-year-old, who now lives in Thornton Heath, said: "I am not pleased with the compensation I have got.

"In the riots I was one of the worst hit yet I get one of the smallest compensation packages. I am disappointed in it and I don’t think it is fair. "The only reason why I took the offer was because I was in debt after losing all my possessions."

She said: "I am still having panic attacks and remembering that dreadful night. Sometimes at night I check the windows and doors in case something happens again."
