A convicted looter has turned his life around and now mentors children teaching IT skills.
Peter Bint stole electronic equipment from Cash Converters after joining the rioting because "it was a once in a life time experience."
He said: "I’ve always had an attitude of try everything once. At the time I lived nearby so I walked in. "It was hectic there was stuff everywhere, people were hitting shops, there was blood from where people cut themselves."
His family spotted CCTV images of him released by the police and told him hand himself in or they would.
He said: "It was terrible - I brought shame to my family."
The 20-year-old was jailed for six months, reduced to three for burglary, and on release found work with charity Limelight, a magazine published by young people, before moving on to work with Crystal Palace FC Study Centre.
He said: "I don’t look at life and think it is over. I got my second chance and I am using it. I want to be an example to show you can go to prison and still live a life."
