Ryan Kichenside was handed one of the longest riot related sentences.
The 18-year-old became notorious when shocking footage of him putting a motorcyclist in a headlock and pulling him from his scooter, was posted on YouTube.
Victim Jason Barton suffered a fracture to his left ankle after it was crushed under the scooter. The bike, which was worth £3,000 had £1,700 cash under the seat.
In a victim impact statement, Mr Barton said: "Without warning someone jumped on my back, had both hands on my neck in a headlock type grip and pulled my body to the ground."
Kichenside of The Lawns, Upper Norwood, was jailed for five years and ten months for violent disorder, robbery and two counts of burglary.
The father-of-one played a prominent role in the disorder in London Road, West Croydon.
CCTV footage showed him leading a gang of youths who threw rocks and other objects at a police cordon, and he was also seen to be the instigator in two attacks on shops which were heavily looted.
