Organisers have revealed a few more details of tomorrow’s “sprint finish” three-hour closing ceremony, but won’t confirm any of the musical acts.
The Spice Girls, George Michael, Muse and others are all rumoured to be appearing, along with a homage to Only Fools and Horses.
Rehearsals for the ceremony, called a Symphony of British Music, have been going on at the old Ford plant in Dagenham, but artistic director Kim Gavin says even he doesn’t know the final line-up yet.
From 11pm tonight, the stadium will be converted into a venue for the ceremony, starting at 9pm.
Mr Gavin said: “I wanted it to be the best after show party that there’s ever been.”
It will celebrate 50 years of British music, culture and fashion opening with a “cacophony” tracing the line from Elgar through to Waterloo Sunset with the help of London schoolchildren.
Athletes will then make their way into the stadium forming a “moshpit” before the live musical performances from British and international names, set to last just over an hour.
A special segment will also see the extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
Seb Coe said today: “It’s a sprint finish.
“I think we’ll have a great show on our hands.”
