A 62-year-old man has died after being hit by a train at one of the borough's railway stations at the weekend.
British Transport Police said they were called to South Croydon Railway Station at around 6.50pm on Saturday evening after hearing reports of a man who had been hit by the Gatwick Express service.
The stretch of line was closed for around three hours while the driver of the train was replaced by a colleague.
Officers said they were not treating the death as suspicious and a report has been sent to Croydon Coroner's Court.
A spokesman for the Coroner's Court said yesterday (Tuesday) that an inquest had yet to be opened as the identity of the man is still to be confirmed.
The railway line was not re-opened until 9.40pm on Saturday.
