Those who use fireworks irresponsibly face fines of up to £5,000, Croydon Police has warned.
Croydon Council has joined forces with Croydon Police to warn residents about the dangers of fireworks in the run up to November 5.
Those using fireworks inappropriately face an £80 fixed penalty notice or a fine of up to £5,000.
New Government legislation makes it an offence to throw or set off fireworks in a public place.
It is also illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be in possession of fireworks and police now have powers to stop and search people and hand out on the spot fines.
Fireworks are not to be set off between the hours of 11pm and 7am, except on stipulated days including Diwali, Guy Fawkes night, New Year's Eve and Chinese new year, when the time limits are extended.
