We all hear about anti-social behaviour in young people, but we rarely hear about this kind of behaviour in public also being prevalent in the older generation.
I had the misfortune to be at the receiving end of this on Saturday, on board the 470 bus travelling from Worcester Road to Sutton.
I'd previously arranged with my sister to meet her in Wimbledon and that I'd call her once I was on the bus, which I did, and the conversation must have lasted less than a minute. There were several other people further down the very packed bus on their mobiles but unfortunately I was an easier target.
The man in front of me and presumably his wife sitting next to me turned on me with a volley of abuse and swearing which left me totally bemused, by which time we'd arrived at Sutton station where they got off, still shouting at me and then the man (they were both well into their '70s) chose to whack me with his trolley, leaving a big bruise on my shin.
I must add that I myself am in my mid-sixties, but being a woman and on my own, I suppose I was easier prey than the younger ones on their mobiles.
Nobody on the bus came to my defence. It was a very disturbing incident which left me very shaken and very concerned that old people are capable of such behaviour.
