Your article, Council under fire for care home cover-up', (October 19) is political mischief making that has the result of causing anxiety to some of the most vulnerable of our community and the carers that do a fantastic job looking after them.
The facts are that we were alerted to concerns via an anonymous letter and this meant we weren't able to follow up the concerns in detail.
The effect of raising historical issues, which have now been resolved, is to worry service users.
We acknowledged there have been problems in the past but the considerable improvements are detailed in recent inspection reports for all to see.
We've clarified reporting with the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate and this particular issue has been dealt with and we've learnt from it.
Councillor Geiringer could have asked officers for further information before going to the press. But of course that would have meant that you couldn't play politics with people who need a high level of social care.
