In response to Ms H Lynch's letter regarding the police's apparently harsh treatment of a schoolboy shoplifter (Distressed shoplifting lad, September 28) I've no doubt that the boy's distress was down to the fact that he'd both been caught and was about to face the wrath of his parent(s).
Perhaps the shameful and embarrassing experience of being marched through Sutton High Street will make the boy think twice about shoplifting again.
All too often unruly youngsters and criminals play on their so-called human rights and are treated with kid gloves, whilst victims are left to pick up the pieces unsupported.
As the saying goes "if you can't do the time, don't commit the crime".
