In response to Charles Gibson's letter published in your October 19 edition (Thanks for double yellows), I wish to raise a few points.
Owners or drivers of white (or any colour) vans often rely on this one vehicle to serve as their mode of transport, whatever the purpose. Are these residents expected to leave their vans somewhere else and walk home carrying their tools?
As for bus drivers, they do not own their buses and it seems far-fetched to imagine that they could use their buses in their off-duty time. Should garages be provided for van owners in order to avoid their neighbours having to look at them?
I assume that the neighbours with the unnecessary double yellow lines will never need to move house or take delivery of a large or heavy object, since the legal maximum loading time in this location is five minutes.
I am waiting for a head-on collision to occur at the junction of Langley Avenue and Andrews Close, since there is now no reason for traffic to slow down and this section of Langley Avenue is being used as a race track by non-resident vehicles.
Indeed there was a road rage incident there only the other week. Is safety no longer a priority in this part of the community?
