I was pleased to note that Baroness Ludford MEP and John Bowis MEP are to press the European Commission to investigate breaches of EU pollution levels by Kingston Council.
The A3 was mentioned, but the Kingston town centre one-way system is at least as bad. The traffic is heavily congested and slow-moving throughout most hours of the day, often with long tailbacks. This results in a high volume of carbon emissions which is a health hazard.
The one-way system was created by Kingston Council when it blocked off the right turn at Kingston station leading to Teddington and Twickenham.
Now anyone who wishes to leave Kingston has to take the bypass through the town centre. I do not know of any town which has a bypass through its centre. It is typical of this council's "head in the sand" attitude. It should undo its mistakes.
SIR ARTHUR LAWRENCE Wolsey Drive Kingston
