How I agree with Denise Puzzle (Letters, October 18) regarding the building of a Sainsbury's supermarket in Coulsdon. We do not need it.
What we need is decent coffee shops, public toilets and an area where residents can meet for a chat.
Since the demolition of the Red Lion pub and the closure of the public toilets outside there are no public facilities at all.
What do people do? There are signs in the library (no public toilets), restaurants and wine bars saying toilets for customers only'.
Are you supposed to go and have a meal just to use the facilities? The bypass will be taking traffic away from Coulsdon, the last thing it needs is another supermarket bringing traffic back in.
As Ms Puzzle said, Waitrose provides excellent shopping and if people want other supermarkets they are only a stone's throw away. What would be great was if Waitrose provided toilet facilities for its customers.
