Further to the letter from T Mundy (Letters, October 11), I would like to clarify the following matters.

I can confirm - as many regular tram travellers will be aware - that the trams possess an intercom with the driver with communication buttons at each doorway as well as at wheelchair height in each disabled bay.

Regrettably your correspondent was unaware of this. Of greater concern was the lack of knowledge displayed by the transport policeman concerned and we will address this.

Passengers can also, and frequently do, use their mobile phones to contact the Tramlink help line on 0208 681 8300 and this can enable the driver to be contacted by the control room.

If anyone witnesses a crime (inside or outside the tram) they are urged to call the free phone 0800 405040 to obtain police assistance. These numbers are repeated on stickers inside the tram.
