In the 36 years we have lived at Fairacre there has only been one owner of the fish shop who regularly had queues stretching down the road on Friday evenings.

The car parking in the road at that time was horrendous, and we could neither enter or exit our property, and were regularly verbally abused. Yellow lines were then painted in order to alleviate the parking problems.

Police were regularly called out to attend Feltham Hill Road as there were so many accidents in the vicinity of Fairacre.

In the late 70s Fairacre was asked to sell some 10feet of the front garden to be used for a pavement, this has, over the years been used to park on by motorists, so nothing new there then.

Addressing the concerns of the change of character of Feltham Hill Road, this began some years ago. The building of flats called Ash Tree Court and Morgan Court that were built, and the installation of the traffic lights on the School Road Convent Road Feltham Hill Road junction, have all contributed to the changing street scene.

The demolition of the former garage, which then became a petrol filling station, and is now the large over powering block of flats, called Beaufort Lodge (where did that name come from?) abutting Fairacre, changed the street scene yet again.

This new planned development, which will look like a single dwelling, had adequate parking as approved by the planners, and Surrey Highways.

Mrs Patrica Weston fears of the character of Ashford changing, is something that needs to be taken to central government, as they are the ones that are demanding local councils all over the country achieve huge targets for new housing.

Clearly Mr Johol's statement of "I don't care if they build 20 flats as long as they provide enough parking" outlines his own concerns, not that of the local community.

In order to preserve the changing face of England's towns and villages, perhaps a campaign could be started to name all these new developments with names that are relevant to the areas in which they are being built. We do hope that the name Fairacre will be retained.
