Maxi Jazz, the lead singer of Faithless, has become an associate director at Crystal Palace FC.

The singer, whose real name is Maxwell Fraser, has been an Eagles supporter since the 1970s, was a prominent voice when the club went into administration in 2010.

He achieved worldwide fame as the lead singer of the band Faithless and was at Selhurst Park on Tuesday to see the Eagles play out a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 55-year-old said he was honoured to have a role at the club he has loved since he was nine years old.

He said: "I was a regular in the Holmesdale during the 1970s, I idolised John Jackson and the highlight was the total 5-0 annihilation of Manchester United.

"I was there, I lost all my money, my house keys and had my beloved bobble hat and scarf nicked by two nine foot red and white Yetis. But it remains one of my all time brilliant weekends.

He added: "I am South London and proud and I support the Palace."

Phil Alexander, the club’s chief executive, said: "I am delighted that Maxi has signed up to be an associate director at Palace.

"We look forward to welcoming him down at Selhurst Park as much as possible this year."
