A number of jobs for unemployed young adults are to be created in Lambeth from the autumn.
Some 21 new jobs will be on offer between October this year and March 2011 following a successful bid to the Future Jobs Fund by HCT Group, which provides public transport and training services.
The Future Jobs Fund is a Government scheme to create jobs and provide hope for young people and jobseekers in deprived communities.
The 21 Lambeth jobs will be targeted at those aged between 21 and 24 who have been on Jobseekers Allowance for 12 months and long term unemployed people of all ages in certain “unemployment hotspots”.
Potential candidates will be referred to HCT Group by Jobcentre Plus.
The jobs will form part of a new accessible car service that will help people with disabilities and older people to get out and about.
As driving jobs, candidates must be over 21 with a clean driving licence for a minimum of two years and must undergo CRB checks.
Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to gain an NVQ Level 2 in road passenger transport.
Angela Eagle, minister of state for pensions and the ageing society, said: “We are determined not to lose a generation of talent as has happened in the past because of the global recession.”
