A train station has been officially renamed today after a community campaign.
Smitham Station was renamed as Couldsdon Town, to make it clearer the station is in Coulsdon.
Croydon Council and campaigners from the area have long held the view Smitham does not accurately reflect the location of the station in the centre of Coulsdon and visitors, residents and the town itself would benefit from a more recognisable name.
When residents and station users were invited to vote for their preferred name, the majority of people opted for Coulsdon Town.
Smitham station opened in 1904, and was named after the local village of Smitham Bottom which no longer exists.
The name change follows the recent upgrade of the station.
