Pupils from Thames Ditton Infant School took part in the second annual Hinchley Wood Partnership Children’s Conference last week.
The event was started by the Hinchley Wood Partnership in 2012 as an opportunity for children from schools in the area to work collaboratively to create a more sustainable place to live in.
The conference covered nine eco topics, with the focus on ‘Global Perspectives’.
The children came together with other schools to learn about sustainability in the UK and other countries around the world.
Pupils were very excited to Skype an eco-school in Uganda, where they talked with the children about the challenges they face.
Each school at conference presented a question to the Ugandan link school about other eco topics, including water, waste, energy, healthy living and transport.
The children from the Ugandan school then presented their answers over the video call to the children.
Natalie Westgate, eco co-ordinator at Thames Ditton Infant School, said: “We are so proud of the eco team children that took part in this event. Their enthusiasm for helping our schools and community to become more eco friendly is truly inspirational.”
The next major events the group will be participating in will be a special green day among the schools and a community litter picking event.
