Kingston Council has performed a u-turn on the closure of a Chessington nursery after admitting councillors were misled over how many children used it.
Moor Lane Day Nursery will not close in September, following a review into how the original decision was handled.
Nursery staff were being informed this afternoon.
Kingston and Surbiton MP Edward Davey said the Liberal Democrat-run council’s officers had told councillors just 12 children attended the nursery, when in fact the total was almost double that.
Councillor Patricia Bamford, lead member for children and young people, said: “We were misinformed at the start of the process.
“I was misinformed and so was [fellow Chessington councillor] Councillor Rachel Reid.
"It is clear that the original decision did need to be reviewed and reversed.
“We are going to continue to provide nursery day care on the Moor Lane site.”
Coun Bamford did not say how the errors were made.
