Nearly 200 people attended a Christmas bash at Putney School of Art and Design last week, when diploma students received their certificates.

The bash was held to raise money for the enlarging of the school, and over £1,400 worth of art work on display was sold.

Visitors enjoyed jazz music and food while shopping for paintings, pottery, scarves and jewellery made by students and tutors at the school.

The school says it desperately needs more teaching space as it has been a victim of its own success with waiting lists for many courses.

Plans include a new studio and café, releasing space on other floors to double the size of the digital media studio and library and install a lift.

The work will start in January 2009 and finish for the start of the autumn term 2009 and during the spring and summer terms the school will be relocated to the old West Hill Library in the Upper Richmond Road.
