Kingston University professor Catherine McDermott will bringing the X-Factor of dreams to China later this month, as the country’s art and design students battle it out to be crowned champion of the art of sleep.
Inspired by the popular TV talent show, the Dream Lab challenge will see Chinese college and university students competing to best communicate aspects of the science of sleeping and dreaming - from jetlag to the psychological effects of night working.
The winning “dream team” will jet over to Kingston to see some of the exciting work and research taking place at the university, in what professor McDermott promised to be a great experience.
She said: “We chose the science of sleep because it crosses all cultures - it’s something that everyone experiences.
“It’s so important that we communicate scientific ideas to the public and engage their interest, and art and design is a good way to do this.
“This inspiring challenge should really grab the students’ attention.”
