Creative schools have been praised by a government agency Artsmark.
Five Merton schools have been handed Artsmark awards by culture bosses at Arts Council England this year.
The prizes, which are given annually, recognise commitment to providing lessons in the arts.
Cricket Green School, St Ann’s Special School and The Study Preparatory School were all given the Artsmark Gold award.
Holy Trinity Church primary received the Artsmark Silver award and Merton Abbey Primary School was given Artsmark accreditation.
To win the gold award, schools must dedicate 15 per cent of their teaching time to the arts and work with local artists and creative groups.
Moira Sinclair, executive director of Arts Council England, London, said: ‘It is wonderful to see so many schools attaining the Artsmark award in London this year. The award recognises many schools’ passion for the arts and belief in the power of creativity.
“We believe that the earlier children are creatively inspired, the more likely they are to have a lifelong engagement with art.”
