The importance of road safety was highlighted by secondary school students across Merton last week.
In a series of plays performed at Wimbledon High School under the chilling theme “don’t die before you’ve lived,” young people reinforced the need to take care on the roads.
Traffic accidents are the biggest single cause of death amongst teenagers and the plays, written and starring students, highlighted the dangers in an effort to reduce the number of casualties on Merton’s roads.
Merton Council's director of environment and regeneration, Sarah Tanburn, said: " Making young people aware of road safety issues is so important, and there is no better way of communicating this to them than through their friends and peers in a creative and fun way.”
Students from Bishopford Community School, Harris Academy, Ricards Lodge High school and Wimbledon High School presented their road safety plays to their peers, parents, as well as a judging panel.
