Stylish hairdressing students at Kingston College brought iconic fashions from around the world to the borough on June 15, after being challenged to create designs based on themes such as the Rio Carnival and Tokyo’s Madame Butterfly.
The students were given free reign in the competition, titled Your City, Your Style, and scoured the globe from Paris to Kansas to create their novel offerings.
Top prizes were awarded to a surprised Nicole Davis, who said she had never won anything before, and Lisa Mockford, who told the Surrey Comet the win had really boosted her confidence.
More than 200 guests attended the evening showcase at the college’s Cafe 100, which had been transformed into four zones representing Tokyo, New York, Rome and London, in addition to the 100 entrants.
Course tutor Rachelle Saunders described the evening as “inspirational”.
She said: “The live floor shows performed by our Barbering students, Headquarters and Scissorhands left the audience captured and animated, and the NVQ level 3 students displayed fantastic creative ‘avant garde’ work and really did us proud.”
