A Wimbledon school’s top student scribbler has been praised for her great articles.
Chloe Proctor, 17, has spent six months as a community correspondent writing articles for this newspaper’s website. She was one of 18 pupils taking part in the scheme at Ursuline High School - and our editors have named Chloe’s writing as the pick of the crop.
The young reporter tackled subjects ranging from fashion and education to community events and the English language in her work. Last Wednesday she was handed a certificate marking her achievement in a presentation at the Crescent Road school.
The students, most of who are aged 16 or 17, had strict deadlines to meet as they submitted their articles.
Similar projects have been set up by Newsquest, publishers of the Wimbledon Guardian, in schools across South West London.
Lisa Thefaut, the school’s business links co-ordinator, said: “The subjects of the writing have reflected the wide range of student interests, ranging from fashion, politics and the environment, to coverage of local events and of their work with local community organisations such as MENCAP, their drop in IT clinics for local older people and their work in many local primary schools.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Guardian for giving our students this invaluable work experience which will now support students applications to University next year.”
A new batch of budding journalists is set to join the scheme when it returns at the start of the next school year.
