A student from Carshalton College picked up an award at the House of Lords.
Carshalton College Beauty Therapy student, Rachel Martin, was given the Best Learner Award, which are organised by the Committee of South London Principals (COSLP).
Miss Martin was carefully selected from over 7,000 students at Carshalton College as its best learner of the year, due to her high grades and commitment to learning.
She has completed her NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy at Carshalton College, after passing her NVQ Beauty level 2 qualifications last year, also at Carshalton College.
She said: “I am so proud to have received the best learner award. It’s an absolute honour. It’s all down to the support of the College tutors who encouraged me progress onto the level 3 course after completing my level 2, I’m not sure I’d have done so otherwise.”
The awards ceremony was hosted by Lord Tope and the invited audience of parents, politicians, employers and representatives from the Learning and Skills Council attended the event in the Cholmondeley Room of the House of Lords.
Miss Martin’s College tutor, Hayley Ward said: “Rachel is a model student.
“She always volunteered for tasks, in fact after just five weeks into her course Rachel volunteered to treat an external client in a commercial therapy session, two months ahead of schedule and she passed with flying colours.”
Best learners representing each of the Colleges received an award from guest speaker Chris Wright, Area Director for London South and London Central, Learning Skills Council.
College Principals in the area work together to improve post 16 and adult learning across the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton.
