With the Ashes in full swing, Merton’s own cricket stars have hit their opponents for six.
Girls at Hillcross Primary School batted and bowled their way to the title of Surrey county champions in Kwik Cricket, a simplified version of the sport aimed at children.
Girls in years five and six at the Ashridge Way school competed for the title in a tournament at Epsom College last month. Their score of 291 in a final against Leatherhead’s Dawnay School was enough to win the competition.
The team will now face champions from Kent, Sussex and Middlesex in a regional tournament.
