Junior road safety officers from primary schools across Kingston joined children from around London for a road safety event at London Transport Museum.
The day included workshops where the year 5 and 6 pupils built a balloon-powered bus and took part in a “street safe” quiz.
Historical characters, including a road sweeper from the 1880s and a bus cleaner from 1916, were also on hand to give tips on how to stay safe.
Road safety training is particularly crucial for year 5 and 6 children because of the importance of being aware of the dangers of the road as they prepare for secondary school, when many of them will be travelling to and from school on their own.
Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School and Burlington Junior School, both in New Malden, were among the schools representing the borough.
Joseph Panter, 11, a junior officer at Corpus Christi said: “One of the key tips I give the children at my school for road safety is always wear hi-vis reflective gear when cycling.”
