Kingston 11-year-olds have proven themselves to be among the best learners in the country, after they smashed the national averages for last year’s SAT examinations.
Figures released this week by the Department for Children, Schools and Families ranked Kingston among the top authorities in the country for pupils taking the tests in English, maths and science, with only neighbouring Richmond scoring significantly higher results.
A total of 85 per cent of Kingston pupils taking the tests reached the Government’s standard in English, 83 per cent in maths and 91 per cent in science, with marks for girls outstripping those for boys in all three areas.
Pupils reaching the higher level 5 standard in the borough were way ahead of average in the country in science, with 55 per cent of Kingston pupils making the grade compared to 43 per cent nationwide.
Results were also higher in maths and English at the higher levels, by 12 and 7 percentage points respectively.
