Kingston students are claiming a victory in their campaign for improved sports facilities, after the university agreed to pilot a free coach service to and from its Tolworth Sports Ground.
The students’ union has been after four things, also including a new indoor sports facility and greater promotion of sporting successes on campus.
After the recent success, nine buses will run on Wednesdays between Penrhyn Road and Tolworth this month, and a university spokesman said: “We will review this, with a view to continuing it, in the new year.
"In the longer term, the university is in discussions to see whether a permanent Kingston University bus service can be set up to take students to and from Tolworth Court.”
In a message to students, Rhiannon Hiscocks, student union vice-president for activities, said: “I can’t stress enough that this is only a trial service and they will be checking the popularity.
"Please if you are playing sport at Tolworth – catch these buses. If they’re busy enough I’ve been told the service will be extended to training sessions to.”
