When most eight-year-olds would ask for a new toy or sweets, one New Malden child has said all she wants is to help disaster victims living half a world away.
Amelia Farr, who lives in Cambridge Road and attends Christ Church School in New Malden, has organised a Dance Party at Christ Church on Saturday, February 20, to raise money for the Haiti earthquake fund.
Amelia’s mum Paula Farr said: “She got the idea after seeing those poor Haitian kids on the news. She just came in and said she really wanted to do something for them.
“People and local businesses have been very generous and appreciative of what she is doing.”
The party will include music, food, drinks, face painting and a raffle featuring prizes such as a year’s gym membership from New Malden Squash and Tennis Club, worth about £500.
Proud father Andrew Farr said they hoped to raise at least £500 for the fund and said his family were very grateful to their supporters, who have already pledged £200 so far.
