Young bookworms at Thames Ditton Infant School helped to stock their school library on Friday, February 12, by taking part in a sponsored bounce.

About 300 pupils from all year groups at the school in Church Walk took part in the annual Bounce for a Book fundraising challenge, organised by the parents’ association - The Friends of Thames Ditton Infant School.

The junior jumpers were each given a minute to bounce on a giant inflatable castle, while parent volunteers recorded the number of bounces achieved and distributed refreshments.

Book vouchers were awarded to pupils for the highest number of bounces and the most sponsorship money raised.

Headteacher Julie McCallum-Allen said: “Bounce for a Book is a really fun event for our pupils to take part in and the money it raises enables us to invest in a wonderful selection of new books to stimulate their learning. We are lucky to have such proactive and supportive parents and we are extremely grateful for all their efforts in raising funds for the school.”

The friends hope the total amount of money collected will beat last year’s sum of £4,000. The funds will be used to buy reading scheme books as well as new books for the classrooms and the school library.
