Kingston Tamil School was one of 40 local organisations given a share of Kingston Council’s £1.1m grant pot last week.

The organisation, based at Tolworth Girls’ School, was cleared of financial irregularities last year, after the council conducted a £10,300 investigation into complaints by a member of the public.

The council’s executive committee approved a £12,989 grant on Thursday, February 11, after council officers said all recommendations made by the audit report should be met by March 2010.

The executive also awarded £3,000 to the separate Surrey Tamil School, based at Coombe Boys’ School, to help fund the hire of premises and teachers’ salaries.

Other beneficiaries included Kingston Citizens Advice Bureau, which received £277,366 as the first instalment of a three year strategic grant, and Kingston Voluntary Action, an umbrella group for the voluntary sector, whose £187,038 was the third year of a five-year funding agreement.
