A school for children with autism and social communication problems has been awarded specialist status.

Linden Bridge School, in Worcester Park, was awarded the status in Cognition and Learning, which means the school can further develop staff expertise and strategies to support pupils.

The school – which was named by OFSTED as one of only 12 schools in the country to be an Outstanding Special School – will also develop its curriculum and improve facilities, including a new design technology workshop.

Deputy head teacher Rachel Watt said pupils and staff celebrated the news at a champagne reception with councillors, school governors, parents and other friends of the school.
