A Tooting primary school has been highly praised by Ofsted for its improvements since their last inspection of the school two years ago.
Smallwood primary school has an above-average amount of pupils with free school meals, special needs and english as a second language but despite this has impressed at a recent inspection.
In their latest report, inspectors praised the new headmaster in helping to drive the school forward.
The report said: “The headteacher, with good support from the local authority and senior leaders, has maintained the drive for continuous improvement and is uncomprimising in setting high standards.”
The report also said pupils are now enjoying going to school and that pupils in Year 6, despite starting the year with poor marks, through hard work, met government requirments by the end of the year.
Councillor Kathy Tracey, schools spokesman, said: “It cannot be denied that there are challenging circumstances at the school and that in the past it has not performed as well as it should.
“However Smallwood is performing well and we believe it will now go from strength to strength.”
