Audiences were enthralled at a theatrical lecture about a forgotten waterworks and reservoir that played a crucial role in defeating a killer disease.
The Defeat of King Cholera, performed by two Kingston youth theatre companies at the Seething Wells campus in Surbiton, told the story of Dr John Snow.
The scientist proved cholera was a waterborne disease by investigating the Victorian tunnels and pipes pumping clean water from the filter beds in Surbiton into central London.
The 40-minute presentation, organised by Kingston charity Community Brain, was the result of six months of sifting through documents from the 1840s, when the site was built, at the London Metropolitan library.
Community Brain chairman Robin Hutchinson said he hoped to take the production into schools in Kingston and was seeking grants for further research.
