Students inspired by the borough’s rich aviation history have designed a logo and web page for the Kingston Aviation Centenary.
Kingston College graphic design student Harry Pocock was chosen for the project after organisers the Hawker Association approached the college in January.
Mr Pocock will be joined by runners up George Farrell and Dan Smith at the VIP reception for the opening of Kingston’s Cultural Programme in June 2012.
He said: “I was thrilled I won, I really enjoyed working on a live brief and with real clients. We did not have very long to come up with our ideas, but that made it even more exciting.”
Kingston Aviation Centenary, funded by a £50,000 grant from Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), aims to put the borough’s illustrious aviation history on the map The aviation industry was the largest employer in Kingston during most of last century, with a workforce often exceeding 3,500 men and women.
Nicky Hillard, who led the project at Kingston College, said: “All our students embraced this project from the start and the Hawker Association was thrilled by our students’ enthusiasm and interest in the project.”
