Protesters are planning another rally tomorrow in a final bid to stop the sale of part of a Putney school.
The protest, outside Wandsworth Town Hall tomorrow (July 11), is a last-ditch attempt to stop the sale of sports facilities at Elliott School in Pullman Gardens.
The protest will be held an hour before a meeting of the full council, which will discuss the fate of the school.
Protesters would also like to stop the plans that are currently underway to change the name of the school to The ARK Putney Academy by September 2012.
If these plans go through there would be a 300% decrease in the area of sports facilities and the loss of a Grade II listed gym.
The school has significant cultural value as one of the country’s best-loved, post-war educational buildings.
The council wants to sell-off land at the site to fund an expansion and upgrade of the current facilities, many of which are not fit for purpose.
Ed Lattimore, a former student of Elliott School said "Political pressure does work and we call upon all our supporters to join us tomorrow for one final push for a further amendment to the proposals which remains terribly short sighted and damaging for education and the future of this historic and much loved site."
The demonstration will be held at 6.30pm outside Wandsworth Town Hall. The Full Council meeting will be at 7.30pm in the Council Chamber.
