One of the nation’s favourite TV hosts, Dan Walker, has issued a stark warning to his social media followers after fake accounts pretending to be him approached fans online.

The concerned BBC Breakfast host took to Twitter after receiving “quite a few messages” from people saying they’d been getting messages from accounts claiming to be him. 

In the video message to his followers, Dan said that he “hasn’t been doing any of that” and shared with fans that he doesn’t have any other accounts or in fact a private account - something many people in the public eye do have.

Accounts posing to be the 45-year-old have been private messaging people asking for personal details and money, something Dan urged fans never to hand over.

The presenter asked fans to report any fake accounts to Twitter straight away.

Addressing his 755,000 followers on Twitter, he said: "Hello, just a quick note because in the last few days, I've got quite a few messages from people saying they've been getting messages from people who are claiming to be me on social media. 

"I haven't been doing any of that by the way, your honour," he said jokingly, before adding: "Importantly though, I don't have a private account, so this is it. 

“I wouldn't be sending you any private or direct messages asking you for information or for money or to give you a number to ring to speak to my PA. That is just not happening." 

Earlier this month the presenter revealed that his last day on BBC Breakfast would be Tuesday, May 17.

He has been a fixture on BBC Breakfast since 2016, and previously fronted the corporation’s flagship breakfast show with Louise Minchin, who left in September 2021.

The 45-year-old announced last month that he is leaving to join Channel 5, where he will replace Sian Williams as the lead anchor on 5 News.
