Wandsworth Council is asking residents where they want Barclays Cycle Hire docking stations to be installed.
The scheme is being expanded across south west London, with the Mayor of London announcing they will be available by 2013.
Residents are being asked to suggest where the docking stations should be built.
Around 60 docking stations could be built in the area east of Putney High Street and north of the South Circular.
Wandsworth Council has been lobbying for the bikes to be rolled out south of the river as part of the Wandsworth Travel Choices campaign.
It aims to bring services like pay-as-you-go bike hire, car clubs and new tube services to the borough.
Councillor Russell King, Wandsworth Council's transport spokesman said: "Bringing these fantastic bikes to Wandsworth will ease the pressure on our roads and create space on overcrowded buses, tubes and trains.
"The next step is to build up a list of potential locations for the bikes. If you know a good, convenient place for a docking station then please contact our transport team with the details."
