Brentford may have crashed out of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge, but boss Uwe Rosler will not mind if his men learn their lesson.

The Bees matched the European champions for nearly two-and-a-half hours of football until Juan Mata’s second half strike in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round replay finally opened the floodgates on a 4-0 win for his side at Stamford Bridge.

The Griffin Park chief insisted the result could have been very different had his men kept faith with the gameplan that had kept the score locked at 0-0.

And the former Manchester City hero reckoned if the Bees achieve the goal of League One promotion then the chastening experience of Sunday’s closing 30 minutes will have been more than worth it.

“We were too open too early,” said Rosler.

“The players have to continue with what works for us even when we are 1-0 down.

“We must have the same shape, intensity and bravery.

“We have to learn to stay in games longer to maybe get the equaliser in the last five minutes.

“When you go 1-0 down that is not a problem, but the second goal kills off the game

“Players can be very proud of the way they represented our colours.

“They have got a lot of  confidence moving forward, as some have performed at a very high level over two games.

“The learning curve is that when we are 1-0 down, we must not lose our heads and this was another lesson.”

The Bees return to League One action with the visit of Walsall on Saturday, something Rosler was keenly aware of.

“Overall I was delighted and delighted with the fact we now have time to concentrate on the league,” added Rosler.

“I’m already over this game. I said what I had to in the dressing room and then we are back in on Tuesday preparing for Walsall.”

In the squad to face the Saddlers will be loan stars Bradley Wright-Phillips, 27, and Leicester City’s 20-year-old defender Liam Moore, who both put pen to paper on deals until the end of the season this week.

Moore has made 14 appearances in the Championship this term and reckoned a quick word with fellow Fox Jeffrey Schlupp – who had a spell at Griffin Park last season – made the decision to join the Bees’ promotion charge an easy one.

“I speak to Jeffrey daily and he always has good things to say about Brentford. I had a gut feeling it was the right place to come, but then talking to people made it much easier," he said.

“I spoke to Uwe and he said there were going to be opportunities for me. It’s quite a small squad so there are going to be opportunities to play.

“If there are times I need to be patient I will be patient but when I am out there I will be giving my all.”
