AFC Wimbledon full-back Chris Hussey praised team-mate Harry Pell after the midfielder redeemed himself in the 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle.
On a tense Tuesday night in south-west London, the proverbial League Two six-pointer crackled into life when Pell lost possession in his own half and Jason Banton, on loan at the Pilgrims, raced away to give the visitors the lead.
However, within a minute, Pell – a January signing from Hereford United – struck at the other end to restore parity – as well as his growing reputation.
Hussey, who returned to Kingsmeadow in January having left for Coventry City in 2010, said Pell’s reaction summed up the team’s positive attitude.
He said: “Harry did not let his head drop. He redeemed himself straightaway and he deserved his goal for his recent performances.
“But that is what we’re about as a team. Everyone is positive and supportive of each other because we’re in this relegation fight together.
“We go into every game knowing we’re going to win.
“In the past couple of games we’ve picked up points and that is what it is all about. Alright, we didn’t beat Plymouth, but it is all about momentum and a point is better than nothing.
“It was a battling performance against Plymouth, there was not much football played, but that is the league and the situation we’re in right now – it is a battle and everyone knows that.”
Hussey’s positivity is tempered by the dogfight, but he remains adamant the Dons will be playing League Two football next season.
“It is not enjoyable being at the bottom, but that is football, there are always two sides to every story.
“When you’re at the top you can express yourself a bit more, but at the bottom we have to be solid and more workmanlike. We need to pick up points and I am sure we’ll do that and I am sure we’ll be fine.”
When Hussey left the Dons for the Championship, the club was beating all-comers.
Now, times have changed, but the full-back is loving every moment.
He said: “Everyone knows I love the club – this is the club that gave me my chance, a platform from which to go and play at a higher level.
“I am as dedicated to the cause as everyone else.”
