New loan signing Martin Taylor may not have played any first team games this season, but the Bees central defender insists he is raring to go, writes Chris Wickham.
The 33-year-old completed a temporary switch to Griffin Park from Sheffield Wednesday this week and will remain in west London until October 7.
The former England U21 international, who has a League Cup winners medal from his spell at Blackburn Rovers, has been used largely as a substitute by Owls boss David Jones this term.
But he insists there is no rustiness as he prepares to face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park tomorrow, having jumped at the chance to move south.
“I heard last week there was an opportunity to come here but heard nothing more,” he said on Tuesday.
“Yesterday [Monday], Dave Jones, [manager] at Sheffield Wednesday, pulled us in and said there was interest and did I want to go down.
“It was a great opportunity to come down and play some games at an excellent club.
“I am glad to be down here and really looking forward to getting stuck in and playing games.
“I have had a couple of friendly games and did a full pre-season.
“You want first team match sharpness, but I will get that in the first five minutes on Saturday hopefully.
“I like to get the ball down and play it. I hear that is the way Brentford like to play.
“Hopefully there is more to me than heading and kicking it away, but you have to play every game as it is.”
Bees boss Uwe Rosler also added Liverpool’s 20-year-old Joao Carlos Teixeira to his squad this week as his men look to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-0 mauling at the hands of newly promoted Bradford City.
The Portuguese midfielder moved to Anfield from Sporting Lisbon, and will be with the Bees until January 5.
