If Croydon footballer Daniel Adjei is playing better today than he was last week, then there is a clear reason.
That’s because the 21-year-old was one of 10 lucky fans who met Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho last week and took part in a special training session with the “Special One”.
Adjei was one of 10 winners of a global competition hosted by Yahoo, with budding football stars from Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany and the UK arriving in London for a once in a lifetime coaching session with Mourinho.
The winners were selected from thousands of entrants into Yahoo’s #Special1s competition, which challenged footballers to submit a 10-second clip of themselves performing an impressive trick shot or demonstrating inspirational football skills.
Mourinho picked the winners who would come to London to meet him and receive a coaching master class.
The 10 excited youngsters, whose ages ranged from 14-24, spent 90 minutes under Mourinho’s guidance, having also previously had the opportunity to quiz Mourinho on his career.
On finding out he had won the chance to meet Mourinho, Adjei said: “I just lost it, I was jumping around my room and so excited as it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“It was just great to be here and in his presence. Meeting the ‘Special One’ has been a real highlight, there is nothing like it.
“People don’t understand. I was lost for words.”
