Brentford are closing in on a deal for Southend’s out-of-contract keeper Daniel Bentley.
The 22-year-old, who has made 160 appearances for the Shrimpers, is yet to sign a new deal at Roots Hall and is reportedly attracting attention from Premier League Burnley and Bournemouth, as well as ex-Bees boss Mark Warburton's Glasgow Rangers.
Current Brentford number one David Button, 27, was offered a new deal to remain at the club earlier in the summer, but is still considering his future at Griffin Park.
Deals to bring Walsall midfielder Romaine Sawyers, 24, and Gillingham’s 23-year-old defender John Egan to Griffin Park are rumoured to have already been done this summer.
Head coach Smith knows Sawyers well from his days with the Saddlers and both players are also out of contract.
