Never mind new signings, it is three old faces Brentford boss Dean Smith is keen to see the best of this term.
New boys goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, midfielder Romaine Sawyers and defender John Egan swooped in to the club’s Jersey Road training base this week as pre-season preparations kicked off in earnest.
But Scott Hogan, Lewis MacLeod and Andreas Bjelland reported for duty a week earlier and Smith liked what he saw of the trio who missed all or large parts of last term.
Goal poacher: Brentford striker Scott Hogan scored seven goals in seven appearances last term
Hogan's seven goals in seven appearances at the end of last season gave the management and fans a glimps of his capabilities and Smith expects more.
“I’ve watched clips of Andreas and you can see what a good player he is – he is like a new signing,” he said.
“Scott has barely played more than a game for us, but has shown what a talent he is and what he could bring.
Excited: Dean Smith has been pleased with the way the Bees squad has returned to pre-season training and has made clear trhe emphasis will be on ball work and tactics as he prepares his team for their opening day trip to Huddersfield Town
“Lewis looks really talented and I am looking forward to working with him.”
