Brentford head coach Dean Smith has praised his men's flexibility to play with three-at-the-back in pre-season and has not ruled out using the alternative system again.
The Bees played with a back four in Saturday's 1-1 draw with FC Kaiserslautern, but Smith has deployed three-at-the-back in previous encounters this summer.
And the former Walsall boss has not ruled out playing a different system to the one that served his side well at the end of last season, when league hostilities commence in Yorkshire next month.
"It is very important we can change our system, but three-at-the-back is verymuch a work in progress and one we can flip to," he said.
"We are mroe comfortable with our favoured style, but it is good the players can be flexible.
"It is plan A-and-a-half rather than a plan B and it is one we are continually working on."
