AFC Wimbledon striker Tom Elliott has admitted he needs to start pulling his weight to get the Dons’ season up and running.
A 2-1 defeat at home to Scunthorpe United last night leaves the Dons rock bottom of the fledgling League One table with no points from three games.
Elliott was a second half substitute when the Dons were already 2-0 down to goals from Tom Hopper and Josh Morris from the penalty spot, following a foul by Darius Charles.
Charles made part amends in the second half by halving the deficit with his first goal of the season, but Elliott knows he also needs to start finding the back of the net.
He said: “We made it hard for ourselves. Two-nil is a long way to come back from, we’ve done it before, but we didn’t get quite get it back in the end.
“I need to get back on the score sheet and I need to help us get up that league and come up together as a team.
“I thought we could come back and in the second half we showed what we can truly do.
“I’m going to work my hardest and help the team get up the league.”
The 25-year-old, who scored six league goals last season, also admitted that heads are starting to drop in the dressing room, although last night’s second half performance was cause for confidence.
He added: “Some are down and some are focused. We’ve got good team morale.
“The manager, the coaches and the fans were brilliant.”
