AFC Wimbledon may be struggling to find their feet in League One, but for one fan it has been nothing but win-win.
Amy Hurry, who attends the female-only Down's Syndrome sessions run by the AFC Wimbledon Foundation, had the honour of leading the Dons out ahead of their ever game in the third tier of English football.
The youngster was given the honour ahead of the Bolton Wanderers match as part of an English Football League community initiative.
Accompanied by her parents, Jill and Richard, Amy walked out in front of more than 4,600 supporters at the Cherry Red Records stadium.
Richard said: “It’s hard for someone with learning difficulties to quite understand the magnitude of the occasion with it being the club’s first game in League One, but she was nervous about walking out in front of so many people.
"Amy managed to overcome her nerves thanks to Jim Piddington [commercial executive at the club].
"She was clutching the ball really right and we did worry if she would hand it over to the referee at one stage."
He added: “It was an emotional moment when Amy’s name was announced and she waved to the crowd.
"She really enjoyed the day and I think we will coming to an AFC Wimbledon match again in the future.”
AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s female-only Down's Syndrome football sessions take place on Sundays between 12pm and 1pm at Southfields Academy.
